A heart is a fragile thing. That’s why we protect them so vigorously, give them away so rarely and why it means so much when we do. Some hearts are more fragile than others. Purer somehow. Like crystal in a world of glass, even the way they shatter is beautiful.

Dear NBC…You kinda suck

Dear NBC,

What are you doing? Your network is already in the dumps nowadays in general and more so because of the Jay Leno and Conan debacle but then you pull this stunt. You chose to show Bonny Hunt’s talk show over USA’s men’s hockey single elimination quarterfinal game against Switzerland.

I am disappointed in you.

I love the Olympics and it’s been difficult watching it with the host city being half a world a way. You would save your best events for prime time even thought the athletes had already completed sometimes up to 16 hours earlier and it’s almost impossible to avoid hearing or learning about the end results before having a chance to watch it myself.

Sign onto any news sites and unavoidably the top story in large font and huge picture tells me Michael Phelps won another gold medal in his quest for eight. Sign onto facebook, or twitter now, and people are already posting their thoughts on the gold medalist before I can watch the athletes compete.

But with me living in California and this year’s Winter Olympics being in Vancouver, I mistakingly thought there would be more live events with both California and Vancouver being in the West Coast, specifically both in the Pacific Time Zone.

But I turn on my television to watch the US men’s hockey quarterfinal match against Switzerland and find Bonny Hunt’s talk show on! Come on!

I’m a huge hockey fan and there is this little thing I’m not sure if you are familiar with called the East Coast Bias. ESPN explains it here if you want to read up on it but in short it’s that you favor East Coast over West. And I’m starting to feel NBC has an East Coast Bias too.

Why is it that East and Central Time Zone get to watch US Hockey vs. Switzerland live and not the West Coast? It’s not like watching it live at 3 p.m. in the East Coast is going to get more viewers than at noon in the West Coast. They’re both during work hours. So what’s the point in having the West Coast delayed until 3 p.m.? It’s still during work hours. And who really in the West Coast is going to watch it at 3 when we’ll already know the final score?

All you have are West Coast people pissed off after they skipped work or after changing their work schedule around to watch a noon hockey game and angrily finding out it’s been delayed until 3.

It’s not like the US is playing Germany. For most of the US games, I knew it was going to be a blowout but the Swiss pushed the Canadians to a shootout so this game with the US is going to be close.

Olympic hockey is single elimination. If the US lose, they are done. So, this game has major implications. The conclusion of this game will be big news and it will be unavoidable to ignore. I can’t just cover my ears or hole myself up in a corner just to avoid hearing the score until I myself have seen the end at 5 p.m PST.

Please stop screwing up the Olympics. Please fix your East Coast bias by the semifinals.

Best,

Cecile

Let the Games begin

Hey! Santa Clara alum Steve Nash assists with torch bearing duties at Vancouver Olympics.

I’m pretty sure everyone and their mom thought “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky would be the final torchbearer and light up the Olympic torch.

USA! USA! USA!

hmm…fly Oceanic Airlines? With their track record, I think I’ll pass; I rather not crash landing on a mysterious island.
Great Lost episode yesterday. Typical of Lost, even more questions/puzzles.

thedailywhat: Lost Easter Egg of the Day: Not sure if this is old news, but searching Kayak.com for a Sydney to LAX one-way non-stop flight on 9/22/2010 brings up this humorous Lost-themed Easter Egg. Try it out!

In case you missed, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm hosted an great SNL last night. Above is my favorite skit. It can be described only as AWESOME. Following the success of Jon Hamm’s John Ham (in tradition with Peter Sarsgaard’s Sars Guard), Hamm opened up a restaurant with musical guest Michael Bublé (or should I say Bubbly).

Hamm as Mass. Senator-elect Scott Brown was pretty good too. Hamm really went for it and it totally paid off. Click here for the entire episode.

Batman Beyond

Went on a Batman Beyond marathon tonight and watched the entire first season of the cartoon with my sister. Brought back memories of waking up early Saturday mornings to watch cartoons. Those were the best.

Even though Batman isn’t my most favorite superhero, Batman cartoons were my favorites alongside My Little Pony, X-Men, Beast Wars, Voltron, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!

I definitely recommend watching Batman Beyond if you were a fan of the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon. Beyond follows it pretty closely, well as closely as you can 20-plus years into the future. There was an awesome Batman Beyond movie that featured Joker and Robin (Timmy Drake version).

Final season of Lost is less than a week away! Pretty cool adaptation of Da Vinci’s Last Supper as the cast photo for the last season.
Also, here’s a story about Lost’s final season from Newsweek
